Holly is a boccia champion

Holly Goodwyn14 year old Holly Goodwyn from Ipswich who has quadraplegic athetoid cerebral palsey has proved she’s extremely sporty.

Holly was first referred to Out & About at the age of 6 for support at her after school and holiday club. This support stopped in 2009 when it was considered Holly was too old for the club. We recently spoke to Holly and her mum to find out what she has been doing since then and we were happy to learn that Holly has been taking part in various sporting activities. She was keen to tell us about her boccia playing at Thomas Wolsey School. She recently received a certificate of participation in the Regional Junior Athletics Championship and had numerous medals to show us. She also plays at Ipswich Jax which is a local disability sports group. Holly told us she is really good at it – as her medals prove!

Thomas Wolsey arranged for a group of students to attend Lords Cricket ground to take part in a table cricket session which Holly also attended so clearly sports is her forte.

Holly was also proud to tell us she is shortly going on her first girlie holiday with her friends and carers to Haven Holiday Park in Great Yarmouth and most importantly for her – she is going without Mum or Dad. She also plans to go to Mersea Island Festival during the summer so is gaining independence all the time.

It was good to see that the little 6 year old we first met is blossoming into a young lady just the same as other young people her age. She was watching ‘Glee’ when we met with her, and according to Holly’s mum, this was not the first time as she was more than happy to feast her eyes on Blaine, who is shown on her wall as one of ‘Holly’s Hotties’.

Out & About have the best team. Thanks to their help I can now get a bus to town to meet my friends more confidently by myself.
