Wendy Connolly ran the London Marathon for the first time this year and raised funds for Out & About. Here, Wendy tells us, in her own words, what it was like:
I did it! I started off really well and despite a previous leg injury, I managed to complete the course in 5 hours 17 minutes. At one stage, after about 16 miles, I had to have some treatment on my leg and wasn’t sure if I would be able to walk let alone run but I thought of all the children and families that may benefit from the fundraising I've done.
After about 15 minutes of power walking/running, I managed to pick myself up and ran. I even managed to spur on another runner near the finish line who was about to give up. So all in all, I was really pleased with my time.
I can't believe I did it! The atmosphere was incredible and the crowds, marshals, etc. were fantastic. The sense of achievement is brilliant.
Well done Wendy. If anyone else secures a place in the London Marathon next year and would like to raise funds so Out & About can support more disabled children in the East of England then please
