Young people VIPs at speedway

Group with riders at SpeedwayA group of young people from Out & About were invited to be VIP guests at the Ipswich Speedway to see the Ipswich Witches take on the Plymouth Devils. Helen and Rachel, Inclusion Co-ordinators went along with 7 young people (Matthew, Kyle, Lewis, George, Amy, Lisa and Charlotte) and 3 volunteers (Sean, Lauran and Aidranne).

As VIPS, they were invited into the pits to see the riders before the race and have a photo taken with them on the track. They were also given a special fenced off area to sit in, which gave them a fantastic view of all the action. As the night progressed and they got their heads around the Speedway scoring system (with the help of Sue from the Ipswich Witches and Sean, one of the volunteers), the young people whooped and cheered the Witches onto victory! Unfortunately as the day became evening and evening became night, the coldness descended but luckily, Rachel and Helen were prepared and took blankets and camping chairs. speedway 2

At the end of the evening, some young people with their volunteers went back to the pits to get the drivers' autographs while the others helped Helen and Rachel to collect money at the exits. The young people got the autographs they wanted and saw a close up of the bike used for Ice Speedway! Those helping collect money did a fantastic job and helped us raise £282.26! A big thank you to everyone who donated money.

speedway 3The young people and volunteers had a fantastic evening and passed on their thanks to Ipswich witches for inviting them along to be VIPs. Lewis (pictured below with his volunteer) said 'It was the best night I've ever had.' speedway 4

Out & About have the best team. Thanks to their help I can now get a bus to town to meet my friends more confidently by myself.
