Our Presidents and Patrons

Those special people who make a significant contribution to Out & About are given the honour of becoming a President. Out & About also selects Patrons who help to promote the charity and its work with disabled children.

I was one of the first trustees of Out & About, having been involved from the very beginning in 1984. I served as Chair of the Board from 1997 until 2005 when I was pleased to retain my connection with the charity by being invited to become a patron. I remain commited to the aims and ethos of Out & About.

Vice President

I first came across Out & About when it was still part of the PHAB movement. Over the years I became more aware of the work of Out & About and admired the whole ethos of the organization. I joined the Board of Trustees and soon had my arm twisted to become Vice Chairman. I eventually took on the role of Chairman, stepping down in 2009. I continued to be fully supportive of the work of Out & About and was delighted to be asked to be a Vice President when I retired.

Most of my working life has been spent working in the voluntary sector or with communities in one way or another. I have worked for Scope, Age Concern, Rethink Disability (now Optua), the West Suffolk Community Health Council, West Suffolk Primary Care Trust and finally ACE.

When I was approached by Out & About and heard about all the great work they were doing, how could I not become involved?! Both my parents were teachers in special schools. I was brought up to believe that we should all have the same opportunities in life, so it's something close to my heart. When you meet the children Out & About helps, you can see how it can turn their life around.

Out & About have the best team. Thanks to their help I can now get a bus to town to meet my friends more confidently by myself.
